Croquet offers a gentle form of outdoor exercise requiring hand-eye co-ordination. It also requires concentration and the ability to plan ahead and think strategically. However, there is no requirement for strength, speed, agility or endurance and whatever your skill level, it is always great fun. Players need to wear flat soled shoes whilst on the lawns; otherwise we have no formal dress code.
Hampstead Heath Croquet Club (HHCC) was formed in 2008 and it is run by the City of London and volunteers. We are very lucky to be able to play on two sites.
Our main lawn is situated at Parliament Hill, near the tennis courts. This pristine lawn is for members only. We organise frequent social evenings where club members are all welcome. Nibbles and drinks are brought by members. We also run our own intramural tournament and coaching sessions. When you join us and if you have a handicap, you can play directly at Parliament Hill.
If you are a novice and need practice, then we recommend that you start at our second site in Golders Hill Park by the tennis courts, near Golders Green Station. This second site is mostly used by the public, novice players and for party bookings. We hold regular open Club sessions, from 2-4pm on the 1st Sunday of every month commencing in May. Non-members are welcome to come to try it out. This an opportunity for the club to introduce the game to non members and to offer free coaching!
We also participate in the “Open Day” in May and the “Give it a Go” festival in July, both organised by the City of London. These events are free and open to the public.
